Why LinkedIn wants to copy Snapchat?

You’ll soon see LinkedIn stories popping up on the platform.

In a 2014 interview, LinkedIn’s CEO Jeff Weiner said – “We are in the process of asking ourselves what it would take…to create economic opportunity for the 3 billion people in the global workforce”.

Like Facebook’s social graph, Linkedin’s long-term goal is to build an economic graph.

“Through mapping every member, company, job, and school, we’re able to spot trends like talent migration, hiring rates, and in-demand skills by region.” – says LinkedIn.

The company currently has roughly 675 million members. So how is LinkedIn gonna reach it’s 3 billion member goal?

By attracting the younger population on Tiktok, Snapchat and Instagram.

A recent report said that only 17% of 18-24 year olds use LinkedIn.

With LinkedIn Stories, the company will aim to not only increase content creation/consumption and overall engagement, but also attract more younger people to the platform.
